Amaurim began in a converted workshop on the west side of Ogden, where our founders spent a winter doing something unusual for a retail business: destroying products on purpose. They bought the best-selling saucepans, sheet sets and storage bins from every major American channel, then used them until they failed and documented precisely how.
The pattern was consistent and depressing. Non-stick coatings that surrendered in four months. Fitted sheets that shrank past the corners of a standard mattress. Storage bins moulded to dimensions that fitted no cabinet ever installed in a North American home. Very little of it was fraudulent; it was simply built to survive the return window rather than the household.
So we inverted the model. Instead of chasing the widest possible catalogue, we built the narrowest one we could defend — a few hundred items we have personally broken, measured and stood behind. Twelve years later that is still the entire business strategy.

Honest specifications
If a pan is aluminium with a steel disc, we say so. Thread counts, gauges and fibre content are listed as measured, not as marketed.
Fair supplier terms
We pay our manufacturing partners within 30 days and never demand below-cost pricing to fund a promotion.
Designed for repair
Every product must have replaceable wear parts available for at least five years from launch, or we do not carry it.
Sensible packaging
Recyclable board and paper void-fill only. No expanded polystyrene has left our warehouse since 2019.
Restrained marketing
No countdown timers, no invented discounts, no artificial scarcity. The price on the page is simply the price.

What testing actually involves
Our evaluation bench is not glamorous. It is a gas range, three dishwashers, an industrial washing machine and a great deal of patience. Cookware runs 500 heat-and-cool cycles while we watch for warping, handle loosening and coating failure. Textiles complete 40 hot washes, after which we re-measure every dimension and check pilling under magnification.
Storage products get the least scientific but most revealing treatment: we install them in real homes belonging to staff and neighbours, then ask six weeks later what has annoyed them. Lids that need two hands, labels that peel, baskets that snag on knitwear — those complaints have removed more candidate products than any laboratory measurement.

The quiet environmental case for durability
The most sustainable household product is almost always the one you do not have to buy twice. We are sceptical of elaborate green branding, so our contribution is deliberately mundane: extend product life, stock spare parts, and keep packaging recyclable.
